Ellis Home and Garden in Shreveport has an immediate Store Manager position opening. We are a family owned and operated company that offers flexible scheduling in a great atmosphere with competitive pay. We are looking for a self-starting individual willing to take ownership in their store with extensive leadership experience managing 10+ employees. This position allows for tremendous freedom and creativity regarding store layout, displays, and more!

Job Description: Responsible for facilitating and supervising daily operations in the store and garden center to make sure the team works together effectively to make sales and contribute to the store, plant upkeep, and OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE. This is a very active and “hands on” job with physical demands at times. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting customers with purchases, maintaining an accurate inventory, scheduling team shifts, interviewing, hiring, and training team members and ordering plants weekly.

This is a seasonal store and operates as follows:

  • We operate as Ellis during March-June with a heavy focus on live plants and garden center related products.
  • We then transition into a firework location for 10 days during the July 4th season, including setup and teardown.
  • We then transition back to Ellis from September-December starting out with our focus on plants and pumpkins during the fall season and shifting into a Christmas store with Fresh cut Trees and Greenery.
  • We then move back to Fireworks for a 10 day selling season for New Years Eve.
Despite the seasonality of this location we pay a base salary year round along with a performance bonus at the end of each selling season, 4 times per year. This position offers Health Insurance, Vacation, Sick pay, and Holidays!

  • Supervise, train and assist employees in customer service, plant care, store maintenance and product promotions.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule for employees within the budget payroll hours.
  • Seek ways to better promote the store, the products and service within the store.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels in the store and garden center, communicating any issues with our corporate buyers.
  • Maintain the health of all live plants with proper watering schedules and care.
  • Implement cross-training of employees to maintain productivity at all times.
  • Unload/load delivery trucks of merchandise and plants.
  • Manage all controllable costs with a view to maintaining profitability.
  • Ensure the store remains clean, organized and presentable at all times.
  • Hire and train as needed to ensure adequate personnel is on hand to provide OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • 5+ years of Retail management experience required
  • Proficient with POS systems and Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. +/- as needed
  • Greenhouse/Plant knowledge preferred
  • Ability to work Nights & Weekends as needed
  • Ability to operate a forklift preferred
Pay will be determined by experience
